Alternatives for a Carbon Zero Future in Chippenham, Devizes, Trowbridge and Corsham

Air Source Heat Pumps

Over the coming years gas and oil boilers are to be phased out as part of an overall Government plan to tackle climate change.

Currently the top alternative environmentally friendly heating solution is air source heat pumps.

As a responsible and reliable heating engineer, Henry Davies-Ball actively promotes the use of renewable heating options, including the installation and maintenance of air source heat pumps, for homes within his company’s area of operation – a 30-mile radius of Devizes in Wiltshire.

Air Source heat pumps work in a similar way to a refrigeration unit, but in reverse. They extract heat from the surrounding air and the warm air is circulated around the building. They are up to four times more energy efficient than the best oil and gas boilers available, so not only are they kind to the planet, they’re kind on your pocket too.

Professional, Friendly, Efficient Service
"I have no problem recommending Henry, he went out of his way to repair my boiler when it packed up two days ago. Henry quickly diagnosed the problem, sourced the part and came back the following day to fix it. I will certainly be using him in the future, he clearly knows his subject inside out and I would have every confidence in him to do a very professional job."
Excellent Work
"My husband and I had henry round to install a new boiler, and again a few months later to tidy up some old plumbing in the kitchen. All work was done professionally and with real care from someone who really seems to take pride in his work. He checked in afterwards to make sure all was well. I appreciate that when he came to quote he didn't talk down to me or assume that because I'm female that I wouldn't understand the technical stuff (an infuriating habit of other people I've had round to quote!). You may find cheaper, but you won't find better!"
Five Stars Well Earned
"Henry was recommended by our neighbours who couldn't speak highly enough of his work. I got in touch when he was too busy to visit and he talked me through a tricky boiler reset which fixed that problem. Since then, he has fitted a new shower and replaced an iffy boiler valve. Every task and item bought was explained carefully in advance and every job has gone exactly the way he predicted. It's good to find a plumber who obviously loves the work, knows what he is talking about, and lives up to his promises. Highly recommended."

Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground Source Heat Pumps are another way to heat your home and shrink your carbon footprint, but unlike air source heat pumps they are best suited to properties with larger grounds that can be accessed by digging machinery. This is because they need an expanse where pipes can be buried (called a ground loop) to extract heat from underground.

The pipes contain a special fluid which absorbs heat. This is then pumped into the building to heat radiators, underfloor heating and hot water cylinders.

The length of the ground loop required to generate sufficient heat depends on the size of your home.

Heat pumps do use some electricity to run, but the heat they provide that is extracted from the ground (or air in the case of an air source heat pump) is totally renewable.

Solar Thermal Panels

The power of sunlight is an obvious choice for heating homes, which is why solar thermal technology is becoming increasingly popular in the UK.

Solar thermal panels (also known as solar collectors) are mounted on the roof to absorb the sun’s heat, using it to heat water that is stored in a tank. They’re more efficient at energy saving than the regular solar PV panels you are probably familiar with, because heat waves carry more energy than sunlight, and there is no need for processing light into electricity to create heat.

There are two types of solar collectors. Flat plate collectors look like solar PV panels, with a dark absorbing surface on the top, filled with fluid that transports the heat from the absorbing surface to a water tank. Vacuum Tube Collectors are more efficient than flat plate collectors, made up of glass tubes through which fluid flows and transfers the heat to where it is needed.

With a wealth of experience, we pride ourselves on our high standard of work and customer satisfaction.
